Access & Inclusion Policy

Our Commitment
At G&S Opera Sydney, we believe that music belongs to everyone. We're dedicated to creating an environment where all members of our community—artists, staff, audiences, and partners—feel genuinely welcomed, valued, and able to participate fully in the artistic experience we share together.

Our Vision
We envision a company where diversity isn't just celebrated, it's woven into the fabric of who we are. Every person who walks through our doors, whether to perform, work, or enjoy a performance, should feel they truly belong here.

Access for All

Physical Access

We're committed to ensuring our venues are accessible to everyone. This includes:
  • Wheelchair-accessible seating and facilities
  • Accessible restrooms and pathways
  • Clear signage throughout our spaces
  • Assistance available upon request—please don't hesitate to reach out

Sensory Access
We understand that everyone experiences performances differently, and we're here to support you:
  • Digital libretto available upon request for hearing-impaired patrons. NOTE: This is a PDF/Soft copy of the dialogue and songs.
  • Quiet spaces available when needed

Financial Access
Opera should be accessible regardless of financial circumstances:
  • Student and senior discounts
  • Community partnership programs
  • Free educational events
  • We aim to provide accessible music experiences to cast and audiences regardless of financial circumstance

Inclusive Programming
We're thoughtfully working to:
  • Present diverse stories that reflect our community
  • Collaborate with artists from varied backgrounds and experiences
  • Commission new works that speak to contemporary audiences
  • Engage with our community to understand what resonates with them

Workplace Inclusion
Our team deserves an environment where they can thrive:
  • Mentoring Programs have been put into place for all areas of theatre production: stagecraft, orchestra, directing, crewing, arts administration, production team, set design and fundraising. This is beneficial in a number of ways, but most importantly for long-term sustainability of the company, as well as giving both mentors and mentorees the rewards of having purpose.
  • Fair and equitable hiring practices
  • Professional development opportunities for all admin, cast & crew
  • Safe channels for feedback and concerns
  • Ongoing training in accessibility and inclusion

Continuous Learning
We recognise that creating truly inclusive spaces is an ongoing journey. We're committed to:
  • Listening to feedback from our community
  • Regularly reviewing and updating our practices
  • Partnering with accessibility and inclusion experts
  • Being transparent about our progress and challenges

How to Reach Us
Your experience matters to us. If you have accessibility needs, suggestions for how we can improve, or concerns about inclusion, please contact us at [email protected] . We're here to help and genuinely want to hear from you.

Accountability
This policy is reviewed annually, with input from our community, staff, and board. We believe in holding ourselves accountable to these commitments—not just in words, but in meaningful action.

Together, we're building a community where everyone can experience the transformative power of this beautiful art form.

About Us

The Savoy Arts Company Incorporated has been producing shows since 1985, specialising in the operettas of William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. To better reflect its primary artistic objective, commencing from 2014, the company will be performing as Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Sydney. Our performing group has provided excellent training in all aspects of stagecraft for performers who have made a career in opera and musical theatre. The Ensemble style of our productions not only provides the chorus with experience in singing with an orchestra, but also provides ample opportunity to learn and develop skills in characterisation and stagecraft.
