About G&S Opera Sydney
The Savoy Arts Company Incorporated has been producing shows since 1985, specialising in the operettas of William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. To better reflect its primary artistic objective, commencing from 2014, the company began performing as Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Sydney. We are registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, which means we an issue a tax certificate for medium to large donations.
Our performing group has provided excellent training in all aspects of stagecraft for performers who have made a career in opera and musical theatre. The Ensemble style of our productions not only provides the chorus with experience in singing with an orchestra, but also provides ample opportunity to learn and develop skills in characterisation and stagecraft.

Who We Are |
The Savoy Arts Company Inc is an incorporated association with a small management committee and volunteer base. It receives no direct financial assistance by way of government grants and only limited sponsorship, so the money required to take a show to three different venues comes primarily from ticket sales, performance fees and fund raising ventures such as concerts and raffles. We are an officially registered charity organisation. Our performing group appreciates the past invaluable assistance of Willoughby City Council under its community theatre support program and also Bundanoon Hotel, our longstanding sponsor in the Southern Highlands.
Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Sydney usually performs with an 28-32 piece orchestra, which suits the primary Sydney venues it utilises. Although performing at different venues is challenging for the whole production team, it enables the company to reach a wider audience and adds to the overall enjoyment, making the rehearsal period well worth the time and effort. |
