Lesley Braithwaite, SopranoWhat’s in a bio…?
Do you begin by offering up the 30 plus years of dance training, performance and choreography…the BA at the VCA and the MFA in CA ? The solo spot at the Kennedy Center performing your own original work, or your New York debut season at the Joyce Theatre - which Baryshnikov reportedly thought resembled the inside of a fridge!? …that said, he did have the Kirov for comparison. Do you note all three hard won Exceptional Artist Visas for Individuals of Extraordinary Ability? What about the golden opportunity of those two consecutive Hellman Scholarships, providing much longed for classical vocal tuition? Doors closing, others opening ….a first taste of topsy turvy playing Angelina in Trial by Jury. The debut which followed with G+S Opera Sydney as Pitti-Sing in The Mikado 2019 and the subsequent performance engagements + tours with this fine company. How to convey the thrill of being invited to perform rare chamber opera gems? Gifted with lead roles in works by Mozart and Bach - Endangered Productions continues to provide the musical bucket list you didn’t even know you had! (Menotti is on the menu for a treat of a triple bill come November) How long do you go on….listing all the highs, knowing the lows quite possibly taught you even more? What you really want to say is that you appreciate everything that has delivered you to this moment . And that you particularly appreciate people turning up to share in it - the moment, the mirth, and the magic. Not your Mum’s Iolanthe!! A chance for the offspring of a milkmaid and a dragoon (I kid you not!) to play with fate first-hand in the unlikely role of Private Willis. Are you with me…? |

About UsThe Savoy Arts Company Incorporated has been producing shows since 1985, specialising in the operettas of William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. To better reflect its primary artistic objective, commencing from 2014, the company will be performing as Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Sydney. Our performing group has provided excellent training in all aspects of stagecraft for performers who have made a career in opera and musical theatre. The Ensemble style of our productions not only provides the chorus with experience in singing with an orchestra, but also provides ample opportunity to learn and develop skills in characterisation and stagecraft.
